There were 10 teams going for a sweep yesterday - 5 road teams and 5 home teams - and the numbers stayed pretty true.
Home teams went 3-2 to complete the sweep (Atlanta, Minnesota, San Deigo completing sweeps; White Sox, St.Louis failing to sweep).
Road teams went 1-4 in their attempt to complete the sweep (Texas was the only road team to complete the sweep; Florida, Washington, Boston, and Oakland winning game 3 to avoid the sweep).
Updated stats:
@ HOME to complete sweep: 38-19 (66.66% success rate)
@ HOME to complete 4 game sweep: 2-0
On ROAD to complete sweep: 8-26 (23.5% success rate)
On ROAD to complete 4 game sweep: 1-2

Don't bet against the Phils vs San Diego for a Sweep...Outstanding road record, bullpen set up nicely now, and Happ is gonna be a good one!

Very Interesting stats.
If I am reading them right there has been exactly 200 possiblities of sweeps this year already? So there has been 200 2 -0 (or 3 -0) starts to these series? How many series has there been up to this date in baseball? I just mean there might be something to betting the team that wins the first game to win the second!

Sorry everyone... been on vacation. Will get the past 10 days caught up by tomorrow.
As for how many total series there have been in MLB this year, I have no idea. In reference to your question though, I would think that far more series have split games 1 and 2 then have won the first 2. Just a guess though.

Updated Stats as of August 10th (includes games Aug.6, 8, 9)
@ HOME to sweep: 95 - 63 (60% success) - HOME teams went 3 - 3 over these days
@ HOME to sweep 4 game: 4 - 10 (28.6% success) - HOME teams went 1 - 0
on Road to sweep: 39 - 53 (42% success) - Road teams went 3 -1
on Road to sweep 4 game: 2 - 3 (40% success)
The percentages have remained pretty constant most of the season with the exception of the Road teams to complete sweeps. Prior to the All-Star game, the success rate was a pretty steady range of 25 - 35%. Since the All-Star game, we have seen the Road team completing sweeps at a higher rate as the overall total has jumped to 42% (the road team has completed the sweep 12 out of 20 attempts - 60% success - since the All-Star break).
I took a look at the combined records between the teams completing the 12 sweeps vs. the records of the HOME teams being swept. The combined winning % of the road teams completing the sweeps are .529 (all but 2 of the road teams that swept have winning records). The combined winning % of the HOME teams that were swept over this time period is .446 (all but 3 have losing records).
My assumption regarding the change since the All-Star break is that you have some of the better teams in baseball (St.Louis, Florida, Boston, LA Angels, Colorado, TB, Philly, Cubs) beating up on the teams that are way out of it... ie. Pittsburgh (2x), Baltimore, Cincinnati, San Diego, KC, Washington, Minnesota (54-57, .486)
