I will throw my $.02 worth in here...I am a huge fan of a team that is in a small market that cannot compete in this day and age of huge contracts that money-laundering teams like the Yankees can afford with ease. My team(the Brewers) has maybe the most loyal fan base of any team in the country, we put 30,000 people in the seats on a Tuesday night for a Pirates game. I have seen other teams this year...the Reds in 1st place by several games had less than 15,000 fans for a weekday game against the Brewers and there was probably 3 or 4,000 Brewers fans there! I have seen the Tampa Bay Rays draw less than 15,000 while in the middle of a heated pennant race. What I hate more than the Yankees though is the state of baseball as it is today. The horse is already out of the barn so to speak, so I don't know how they can fix it. I love baseball, but it kills me inside to know that my team has little or no shot to compete because of the huge disparity in money they are able to offer. The Brewers made a very acceptable offer to CC when he was a free agent, but the Yanks offered him 5 million a year more. I'd also like to say at this point that CC Sabathia is a fucking money hungry cock-sucker that needs to be a big fish in a big pond. I don't begrudge Yankees fans their right to be cocky, they spend more than any team every year, they should be good!!! If their front office was smarter they would have 35 fucking rings by now.

Thats the thing people should be mad at. The spending rules on a player. If there are no rules should the Yankees have mercy offering a player more money to give a team that can't spend as much mercy?  Fuck no! Change the rules if you want more small market teams get a chance. I dont agree with the rule myself, but dont hate the Yankees for that as it seems many do.

You give me a good way to change the system as it is now. Should the Yankees be forced to slash their payroll by 75%? I certainly would love it if that was how it was resolved, they'd have 3 players left on their team!  foclaugh

Salary Cap. Something that will probably never happen. Until then everyone should just qcomp

I agree with you 110%. Matter of fact I don't hate the Yankees. I hate their bandwagon fans.
Not saying your one of them. Tcane that used to be on here was one of them.
When they were winning it was his Yankees. But when they did not make the playoffs in 2008.
All of a sudden he was a Rays fan  rofl

If MLB wants parity. Then they need to cap spending. How do you cap spending ?
With a salary cap. There is no way in hell the players union will sign off on that.
It's at the point now Lee will get 20 to 25 million a year on his next contract.
So guys that are under 500 pitchers with an ERA of over 4 will get 4 or 5 million a year.
Because the market is setup for that amount now.
So even the average player does not want a cap

Boston and the Yankees will always be the rumored team involved with top tier free agents.
The Angels, Phillies and I guess now Texas will be the next teams on the list.
Then last week Washington popped off about being players for Lee. Saying they could see spending 120+ Million over 5 years for him.

The Tigers used to spend money like crazy the last few years. But now said they may be lowering their payroll.
Guess that's true since they resigned Inge for two more years.
Most people here thought they would look to upgrade at third base. The best option would be Beltre.
But you know he is going to command a huge salary.

I hear people say when you don't have the money you have to draft well.
That's fine and dandy. But what are the odds you are going to even draft one superstar each year ?
Since money is a problem. How long will they be able to keep the superstar type player.

The money problem is a baseball problem, not just a Yankees problem.
Until baseball fixes that. Things will keep being the same way.
On occasion there will be A Giants or Texas team that sneaks up on everybody.

Before the NHL had the salary cap. The Detroit Red Wings were doing the same thing the Yankees did.
Nobody hardly even bitched about that. Here in MI we jokingly called them the Yankees on ice.

There will always be banwagon fans when teams are winnning championships. Unfortunately nothing will ever fix that. Like how people were all of a sudden Pat's fans when they were winning championships. I've been a Yankee fan all my life and if the Yanks cannot win i just hope Boston cannot either. Then i really could care less who wins. In fact, i would probably more of a die-hard fan if there wasnt so many phony Yankee fans just saying they are a fan.  rofl

I grew up watching Don Mattingly and Bernie Williams which is what really made me a Yankee fan. I'll be the first to tell you i'm not a die-hard "go to every game" type of Yankee fan but it just puzzle's me how people hate them for their winning and spending.

Now as far as the Raiders go..yes i am a die-hard fan who even has the insignia tattoed on me!  At least if they win a super Bowl people cannot say I'm a ban wagon fan there  foclaugh

I agree with it all.  Bottom line it comes down to the MLB players union being the strongest union in the world.  Probably not the most powerful, but definitely the strongest. As long as America has the notion that the owners are rich money whores and the 'poor players' need to fight for their contracts baseball will never get fixed.  I'd love to see the players union get busted up and then let there be a true salary cap, or at least a limit on 'Max' deals one team can have.  What if you could only have 4 players on a team that made more than the average of the top 40 players.

When the Yanks have 5 of the top 25 players something is wrong.  I also think it is wrong that Da' Cubs have 3 in the top 25 and can't get all 3 of them on the field for more than 50% of their expected starts...... foclaugh   jkit  Go Brewers
