ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Tigers are "being aggressive right now in asking about pitching" and are "checking on high-end guys, not just the third-tier guys."
FOX Sports' Tracy Ringolsby noted that Tigers scouts were in attendance for the Brewers/Rockies game Thursday when Ubaldo Jimenez was on the mound. Jimenez might be a far-fetched target for the Tigers, as the Rockies seem unlikely to deal him, but there's no denying the fact that Detroit really wants a starter. They've been linked prominently to Hiroki Kuroda, but it sounds like they might set their sights a little higher.

A scout told FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi that Melky Cabrera will likely be the first Royals player traded at the deadline.
It makes sense, as Cabrera has had a nice year and can be useful as a fourth outfielder/spot starter, and the Royals have Lorenzo Cain ready to take over in center field.

The Tigers had two scouts at the Colorado game last night. Speculation from other scouts -- SPECULATION--is that they were watching Jimenez.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Phillies are considered the front-runners to land Heath Bell.
Olney also adds that the Phils have interest in the Padres' Mike Adams and Chad Qualls, as well. They would probably prefer to have Bell and move Ryan Madson back to a setup role, but if the price for Bell is too steep, they'll keep Madson in the ninth inning and target Adams or Qualls for setup work

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Rangers are "all over the bullpen market" and are "considered by rival executives as a favorite to land either Heath Bell or Mike Adams."
Just Friday, Olney reported that the Phillies were the favorites to land Bell, but it appears the Rangers will represent their stiffest competition.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Pirates have contacted the A's about a possible trade for Josh Willingham.
The Bucs are seeking an upgrade in the outfield, and Willingham represents a sensible option

The Angels are interested in Aramis Ramirez, but he's adamant that he will not waive his no-trade clause, according to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
Ramirez is hitting as well as anyone in baseball right now, batting .346 in July and making a great push during a contract year.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Brewers are monitoring the shortstop and third base market as the trade deadline approaches.
Heyman writes that they are eying Wilson Betemit and Jamey Carroll. Because Milwaukee has decimated its minor league system, they'll have to be bargain shoppers

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Tigers are interested in Aaron Harang.
This confirms a report by Jon Heyman of SI.com. Harang, who recently returned from a foot injury, is 7-2 with a 3.19 ERA over 15 starts with the Padres this season

The Rays, Nationals and Red Sox are among the teams that called the Cardinals about Colby Rasmus, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com. However, GM John Mozeliak says he's "not shopping" his center fielder and insists that a deal remains "highly unlikely"

Giants acquired INF Jeff Keppinger from the Astros for RHPs Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel.
Keppinger is a great fit for the Giants, as he can be used all over the infield. The 31-year-old got off to a late start this season after foot surgery, but is batting .307/.320/.436 with four homers and 20 RBI over 169 plate appearances.

CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Reds are interested in acquiring a leadoff hitter, with Chone Figgins and Coco Crisp on their radar.
Cincy have tried mostly Drew Stubbs and Chris Heisey in the leadoff spot this season, but Stubbs' OBP is just .331 and Heisey's is even worse at .305.

According to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Pirates are mulling a potential trade with the Athletics for outfielder Josh Willingham and left-hander Craig Breslow.
We've heard the Pirates linked to Willingham over the past couple of days, but it appears that the two clubs have begun to discuss names. According to Biertempfel, Garrett Jones would likely be "out the door" in a potential swap with the A's

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Brewers have reached out to the Dodgers about the availability of Jamey Carroll.
It's a good match, as Carroll could play either shortstop or third base with the Brewers. The 37-year-old is batting .290/.360/.360 with 12 doubles, eight RBI and five stolen bases in 321 plate appearances

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Braves "could be close to making a deal for a right-handed bat."
O'Brien doesn't divulge which bat they appear poised to acquire, but they've been linked to outfielders like Ryan Ludwick, Josh Willingham and Hunter Pence

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal report that the Braves are interested in the Reds' Jonny Gomes.
Might this be the right-handed hitter David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the Braves were close to acquiring?

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Tigers have acquired Wilson Betemit from the Royals in exchange for two prospects.
Morosi says the Royals will get a left-handed pitcher and a catcher from Detroit, though he doesn't have the specific names yet. Betemit has posted a .281/.341/.409 batting line with three homers this year for the Royals and put up an .889 OPS for them last year. He'll presumably take over as the everyday third baseman for Brandon Inge

Phillies officials have spoken to the Royals about Melky Cabrera, according to FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi.
The Phillies are also known suitors for Carlos Beltran, but acquiring him may mean unloading some promising young talent. Cabrera should come cheaper. The former Yankee has a .793 OPS, 12 home runs and 54 RBI in 95 games this season for the Royals

The Giants, Phillies and Braves appear to be the leaders in the Beltran sweepstakes, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com. The Brewers are also a possibility.

Alfonso Soriano's contract may be the most untradeable contract in baseball, but a source tells Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago that the Cubs would be "willing to absorb a high percentage" of the money left on his deal if the right trade offer came along. There is more than $60M left on his eight-year, $136MM contract.

Soriano's deal includes a full no-trade clause, but we recently heard that he'd waive it to go to a contender. The 35-year-old is hitting .249/.291/.445 with 14 homers this year, and an American League team could also hide his suspect outfield defense by using him as a DH. Soriano's contract calls for an $18MM salary this year and every year through 2014.

The Red Sox have had "exploratory" talks with the Royals regarding Jeff Francoeur.
The Red Sox appear to be one of Carlos Beltran's main suitors, but if they decide to aim lower, Francoeur could be a part of a pretty decent right field platoon with Josh Reddick

The Rays created some buzz last night when they pulled B.J. Upton from their game while top prospect Desmond Jennings was a late scratch in the minors. Jennings is coming up to the big leagues, but not because Upton was traded; Reid Brignac was sent back down. The Braves and Nationals are among the teams reportedly interested in Upton
