MTi Sports

Lakers at Bucks
Play: Under

The Lakers are 0-12 OU (-13.5 ppg) since February 10, 2010 after a win in which Derek Fisher had more turnovers than assists and 0-7 OU (-19.8 ppg) after playing the Clippers. Consider LA and Milwaukee UNDER.

Gregg Price

West Virginia vs. Syracuse
Play: Syracuse -9½

This has blowout written all over it. W.V. has had some good teams over the last decade right? Well they have only beaten Cuse once over the last 8 years. And have only covered twice. Take Syracuse as your early blowout winner.

John Ryan

Virginia Cavaliers vs. NC State
Play: Virginia Cavaliers +2

5* graded play on Virginia as they take on North Carolina State in ACC action set to start at 8:00 PM ET. My proprietary sports handicapping database and simulator shows a high probability that Virginia will win this game by three or more points. Supporting this graded play is a system that has produced a record of 31-6 ATS for 84% winners since 2006. Play on road teams where the line is +3 to -3 and is a struggling offensive team scoring between 63 and 67 points per game and now facing an average defensive team allowing 67 to 74 PPG, after 15 or more games have been played and after a combined score of 115 points or less. There are many criteria to this system, but each one supports Virginia in this game and under scores the advantages Virginia has offensively against a largely inconsistent NC State defense. UVA ranks 248th scoring 64.4 PPG, 207th getting 34.3 boards per game, 187 getting 12.7 assists per game, and 90th connecting on 45.7% of their shot attempts. This offense will be going up against State’s 201st scoring defense allowing 68.6 PPG and I strongly believe UVA will have one of their best offensive games tonight. UVA defense ranks second in the nation allowing 50.1 PPG. first allowing just 7.1 assists per game, and best allowing just 27.2 opponent rebounds per game. I strongly believe that the UVA defense will overwhelm NC State and ultimately UB+VA will dominate both ends of the floor. Take Virginia.

Jack Jones

Phoenix Suns +4

The Phoenix Suns should not be an underdog at home. They have certainly been disappointing in the early going, but as a result, this team is showing excellent value tonight. The Memphis Grizzlies are still playing without their best player in Zach Randolph, and they are way overvalued because of it.

This play falls into system that is 44-13 (77.2%) ATS over the last 5 seasons. It tells us to bet on underdogs (PHOENIX) - cold team - failing to cover the spread in 8 or more of their last 10, tired team - playing 8 or more games in 14 days. Bet the Suns Saturday.

Chip Chirimbes

Auburn vs. Tennessee
Play: Tennessee -9

Doesn't it seems strange to you that the 9-11 Volunteers are favored so heavily over a 12-8 Auburn club. The answer may be found in past performances where the home team in this series is 11-1 ATS in the last 12 and that the favorite has won 10 of the last 12 meetings. With the addition of Memphis native the 6'8” Jarnell Stokes who makes a difference for the Volunteers.

Dave Price

1 Unit Tennessee -9

Auburn has been awful away from home, where it is 1-7 this season with an average losing margin of 14.5 points. Tennessee is a strong 8-3 at home, where it is winning by 9.5 points. Plus, the Vols have won 6 in a row at home against the Tigers with those wins coming by 26, 19, 16, 6, 23 and 29 for an average winning margin of 19.8 points. Motivated by Tuesday's poor performance at Vandy, expect the Vols to bounce back strong here.

Jimmy Boyd

1 Unit Texas A&M -4.5

Expect a letdown from Oklahoma State on the road following Wednesday's big upset win over Missouri. The Cowboys are just 2-8 when playing away from home this season, losing those games by an average of 8.8 points. Texas A&M, meanwhile, is 10-2 at home, where it is winning by an average of 11.0 points.

The Cowboys have been a terrible road underdog for quite some time, checking into this contest at 19-41-2 ATS in their last 62 games in the role. They are also just 14-31-1 ATS in their last 46 games as an underdog of 6.5 points or less. The Aggies, meanwhile, are 15-7-1 ATS in their last 23 games as a home favorite of 6.5 points or less.

The Aggies have won the last 3 in this series with the 2 home wins during this span coming by 15 and 23 points. Also, the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings. Take Texas A&M.

SB Professor NCAAB Early Picks 12/10
As always, picks are against the pointspread and not just to win outright. Saturday's early NCAAB picks:

2:30 PM EST
584. Maryland +3* (mostly 2.5s but 3 is a key number so buy the half point)

Rest of Games:
587. Wyoming -1.5

DR BOB

COLLEGE

2 Star Selection
West Virginia (+9 ½) over SYRACUSE
28-Jan-12 10:00 AM Pacific
West Virginia is coming off an ugly 62-78 loss to St. John’s as a 7 ½ point home favorite, but I expect Bobby Huggins to have his team ready for a very good effort today. West Virginia has covered 7 straight times after a loss and Huggins’ teams are 85-49-4 ATS after a loss, including 48-9-2 ATS after a loss of 8 points or more. West Virginia also applies to a solid 86-44-3 ATS bounce-back situation that is based on their upset loss to St. John’s. My ratings favor Syracuse by 10 ½ points using all games for each team but the Orange aren’t likely to be as good without defensive force Fab Melo, who averaged an incredible 3.0 blocks per game through the first 20 games before missing the last two games due to academic issues. The Orange lost to Notre Dame and struggled a bit in a 7 point win over Cincinnati in two games with Melo while averaging 4.0 blocks rather than they 7.8 blocks that they averaged with Melo. I think the line on this game should be 9 points with Melo out and I certainly don’t mind taking Bobby Huggins’ team after an ugly loss. I’ll take West Virginia in a 2-Star Best Bet at +9 points or more and for 3-Stars at +11 or more.
Play Strength: 2-Stars at +9 or more.

3 Star Selection
Buffalo (-14) over NORTHERN ILLINOIS
28-Jan-12 10:00 AM Pacific
Northern Illinois is one of the worst teams in the nation and the Huskies are now without their leading scorer and rebounder Tim Toler, who was dismissed from the team. The Huskies apply to a negative 27-68-1 ATS situation that plays against horrible teams as home underdogs and Buffalo applies to a very good 187-90-6 ATS road favorite momentum situation that applies at -15 points or less. My ratings favor Buffalo by 16 ½ points without adjusting for Toler and I calculate his value at close to a point. I’ll take Buffalo at -15 points or less in a 2-Star Best Bet and for 3-Stars at -14 or less.
Play Strength: 2-Stars at -15 or less, 3-Stars at -14 or less.

2 Star Selection
NORTH TEXAS (-4 ½) over Arkansas State
28-Jan-12 10:00 AM Pacific
North Texas has covered the spread in 7 consecutive games and I’ve been on the Mean Green as a Best Bet 4 times during that run. I see no reason to stop now, as North Texas hasn’t missed #2 and #3 scorers Chris Jones and Jordan Williams (both academically ineligible) in the two games that they’ve missed so far. Without Jones and Williams, star Tony Mitchell will take more shots, which is a good thing considering his 63% shooting percentage. Mitchell scored 30 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in an upset over Denver in the first game without Jones and Williams and North Texas covered the spread in a 2 point loss at UL Lafayette on Thursday despite Mitchell being in foul trouble (he played just 17 minutes and scored only 11 points). My ratings favor the Mean Green by 8 ½ points and I’ll take North Texas in a 2-Star Best Bet at -5 or less.
Play Strength: 2-Stars at -5 or less.

2 Star Selection
ALABAMA (-10 ½) over Arkansas
28-Jan-12 10:45 AM Pacific
Arkansas has been a bad road team for years (59-114-6 ATS since‘93/’94) and the Razorbacks are 9-32-1 ATS on the road the last 5 seasons, including 0-4 ATS this season under new coach Mike Anderson. Anderson doesn’t figure to end the trend of bad road play, as his teams at Missouri and Arkansas are 9-33 ATS on the road against teams with win percentage of .550 or higher. My ratings favor Alabama by 13 points using a standard home court advantage, so there is certainly value in going against Arkansas on the road again. I’ll take Alabama in a 2-Star Best Bet at -11 or less.
Play Strength: 2-Stars at -11 or less.

2 Star Selection
UL Lafayette (-7 ½) over UL MONROE
28-Jan-12 02:00 PM Pacific
UL Monroe is just 1-12 ATS in their last 13 lined home games and the Warhawks apply to a 19-69 ATS weak home court situation. Monroe has lost 6 of their 9 home games by 12 points or more despite facing a schedule that is 2 ½ points easier, on average, than UL Lafayette’s rating. My ratings favor UL Lafayette by 9 points and I’ll take UL Lafayette in a 2-Star Best Bet at -9 or less.
Play Strength: 2-Stars at -9 or less.

Eastman NCAA Hoops:

2-Unit Play. Take #690 New Mexico State (-9.5) over Fresno State (9:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28)

NMSU needs to bounce back from its big loss to Nevada this week and they need to snap a two-game losing streak. They also have revenge over Fresno for an OT loss to them near the end of last season. The Aggies are 20-8-3 ATS in their last 31 home games and they have blown out teams like Idaho and Utah State. Fresno State is not a very good team and they only have one win this month. Fresno keeps sliding and NMSU will take out some frustration.

7-Unit Play. Take #647 Xavier (-4) over Charlotte (7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28)

This is my College Game of the Month. I like the Muskateers to bounce back from their loss to St. Louis this week. They have lost two straight games after a four-game winning streak and if Xavier wants to be involved in the A-10 title run they need to start winning games like this. I think that they will. This team has been very streaky all year. But they have been a great bet on the road over the past two seasons. They are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 road games and they have won four of their last six trips to Charlotte. This game really reminds me of back in 2010 when Xavier came to Charlotte as a -4 favorite and they won by 14 with ease. I don't even think they were as motivated as they are now. Xavier is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings and they beat Charlotte by 20 last March when they last met. Charlotte has only won 3 of its last 10 games. They lost at George Washington and they were blown out by Temple earlier this week by 22 points. I think that Xavier and Temple are equal teams and that the Muskateers are going to beat them nearly as badly. This one should be all Xavier. Take the Muskateers and watch you bankroll go.

2-Unit Play. Take #596 Western Michigan (-3.5) over Miami (4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28)

This is a big game for WMU if they want to get back into the MAC race. It has been a disappointing year for this team. But they have a nice home court edge and Miami, OH struggles away from home. Miami is just 3-8-1 ATS in its last 12 games. They are just 2-8 SU in their last 10 games and this team just continues to miss shots. I think WMU should have been -7 so there is a lot of value in this one.

2-Unit Play. Take #602 UCLA (-7.5) over  Colorado (4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28)

This is a big game in the Pac-12. UCLA has stated to play better over the last month. They are getting strong contributions from their big men and I think that they will be tough to beat. Colorado has gotten off to a great start in league play. But all of their big wins have come at home. They only have road wins over USC and Utah. But they don't have another road win this year. I think that they are going to get blown out here like they did at Cal and I think that UCLA uses this game to make a statement.
