Elite basketball handicapper, the real Matt Rivers of OffshoreInsiders.com has a free pick Saturday on Boston College (+9.5) to Georgia Tech.
Reasoning: The Eagles are one of the worst ACC teams that I have ever seen. I have no idea how Steve Donahue's boys from Chestnut Hill could be as bad as they are but it appears they are.
With the above said though can this pretty wretched Georgia Tech team that has no home court advantage whatsoever really be laying around double digits like this? It's absolutely asinine and in the end I will fade a bad team at this price every day of the week no matter how bad their opponent may be.
Brian Gregory has brought nothing at all to the table in Atlanta and in fact has been awful in replacing Paul Hewitt. Dayton didn't even mind when they lost the coach and I think we're all seeing why. Alexander Memorial Coliseum is being pretty much rebuilt and therefore the Jackets are a nomadic squad splitting its home games at Philips Arena and the Gwinnett Civic Center. They have been routinely pounded in both facilities, including mustering a whole 38 points against Virginia and are a team that has nothing at all going for them.
Boston College is the less talented team on the floor today but bad teams laying big numbers is flat out wrong and this is the epitome of such. Udofia, Rice, Miller and the Jackets probably will pick up a rare win today as the Eagles on the road are inferior. I like to use an analogy which fits to a tee here, BC is a 16 on the Black Jack table but the Yellow Jackets are a 6 and in the end I'll take my chances in that spot as they are in that bust position making me feel alright about this poor hand that I have been dealt.
Top expert pick on this game: Boston College from Matt Rivers
I did it again yesterday as the 400,000* on Loyola, Md. was a total joke. There is no doubt whatsoever as to who the best handicapper on the planet is. Loyola. The Greyhounds were up by a billion pretty much right off the bat and another 400,000* play cashed that ticket. It's now eight of 11 winning days, a 12-4 overall run in which my teams have covered by an amazing 76 1/2 point and 2.8 million stars of profit.
And today is the biggest and most powerful play of all, literally! I am raising that bar and completely destroying the Crookie and I mean destroy. 500,000* Lock of my Life Kansas-Missouri along with a 7:00 200,000* bonus dog that will cover the number going away! I once again implore you to hear what I have to say as I am winning and you will as well!

#13 UNLV Runnin Rebels (21-3, 5-1) vs. Wyoming Cowboys (17-5, 3-3)
Odds: UNLV -4
The University of Wyoming bench is going to have their hands full when they welcome the #13 UNLV to Laramie today. But if they can handle the Running Rebels, they’ll definitely have a shot at getting in the hunt for the Mountain West prize.
So how do the g Cowboys and their 65 ppg average hope to slow down the eighth top scoring tema in the NCAA? UNLV is clocking in around 80 points a game and has only lost one of their last fourteen games. In fact, the Runnin Rebels have only dropped three games all season and two of those were against ranked opponent, so Wyoming is out of luck on that count.
#22 San Diego State, the last team to beat UNLV, did by holding them to only 67 points. Wyoming did hold SDSU to only 52 points, so a big night for the Cowboy defense isn’t unthinkable.
UNLV struggled a bit in late January and nearly gave up two games to unranked opponents, including a 77-72 OT win against struggling Boise State. But they roared back to life on Wednesday with a decisive 82-63 win against the 14-7 Colorado State Rams.
That victory was lead by the hot hands of Oscar Bellfield (9.7 ppg) and Chance Stanback who each put up 16 points. Bellfield had been in something of a slump in late January and only scored six points in games against New Mexico and TCU.
Wyoming is coming off of a tough 58-52 loss against TCU on Monday. The Cowboys looked great in the first half, but let the Horned Frogs get away with a 14-2 run in the second that left them badly demoralized. (And a 32 percent shot average from the field didn’t help things either.)
It seems pretty unlikely that the Cowboys will pull off the upset here. UNLV isn’t slumping; they’ll be taking everyone seriously this time of year; and they’re really, really good.
The pick: UNLV -4 from The Canadian Crew

What to watch: College basketball betting TV guide
Syracuse Orange at St. John’s Red Storm, 12 p.m., ESPN (+12.6, 136)
Fab Melo is back – just maybe not in the starting lineup. The center who missed the past three games due to academic reasons has been cleared to play, but coach Jim Boeheim remained undecided if the sophomore would be immediately reinserted into the first unit. Melo averaged 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game with a team-high 60 blocks before his suspension.
“He’s got to get back to work and get back into the flow of the game,’’ Boeheim told the Syracuse Post-Standard. “We’ll have to wait and see. We’ll see how he reacts to being out.’’
Marquette Golden Eagles at Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 1 p.m., CBS (1, 129)
Don’t expect a lot of points for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame has won three league games where it has shot worse than 37 percent from the floor – against Louisville (31.7), at Seton Hall (35.1) and against UConn (36.2). But the team has countered its poor offensive output by playing at a snail’s pace and ratcheting up the defense.
Not only have the Fighting Irish given up an average of just 45 points the past two games, but the team has held its past three opponents to a combined four fast-break points.
“We understand each other, how to rotate,” Notre Dame coach Mike Brey told reporters. “And we're keeping people for the most part to one-and-done.”
Ohio State Buckeyes at Wisconsin Badgers, 2 p.m., ESPN (2, 115.5)
Ben Brust is finally healthy. The Wisconsin guard and dynamic bench scorer has battled an illness that had him drop six pounds and forced him to play a season-low 11 minutes in a mid-week win at Penn State. Brust, who averages 9.3 points per game, missed all four of his field goals and committed a turnover in the victory over the Nittany Lions.
“I tried to put all my best energy out there,” Brust told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “But shots weren’t falling. Maybe fatigue, maybe not. I feel 1,000 times better.”
North Carolina Tar Heels at Maryland Terrapins, 4 p.m., ESPN (13, 150.5)
Sophomore Terrell Stoglin is giving the Terrapins a chance to win every game. The ACC leading scorer averages 21.8 points per game and is coming off his third 30-point performance of the season as he dropped a career-high 33 in a 90-86 double-overtime loss at Miami this week. Stoglin made just six of a school-record 20 3-pointers but he was a perfect 9 of 9 from the free-throw line and committed a mere three turnovers.
“If we popped in a film from Day One until now, I think you'd just be shocked how much better the kid is," Maryland coach Mark Turgeon told the Baltimore Sun. "He doesn't totally know how to play a certain way for us to win. In his mind, he's got to shoot every time for us to win. He's trying to figure it out."
Air Force Falcons at Colorado State Rams, 5 p.m., CBS College Sports (-8, 125.5)
Pierce Hornung needs to shrug off his most recent performance. Hornung, who missed extended time earlier this season with a concussion, had a horrific 31 minutes in a blow-out loss at UNLV, finishing with four points and three turnovers before fouling out. Hornung is the team’s top reserve and averaging 7.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
"We still have to prove it, but I think a lot of people have underestimated us,” Colorado State coach Tim Miles told the Denver Post. “We're not out of the woods, but I think we could show some people moxie I don't think they thought we had."
Indiana Hoosiers at Purdue Boilermakers, 7 p.m., Big Ten Network (-3.5, 143)
Terone Johnson made the most of a shot at the starting lineup at Northwestern. The sophomore guard delivered with the first unit in a mid-week win over the Wildcats, posting a team-high 14 points to go with three assists, two rebounds, two blocks and two steals. But is it enough to keep him with the starting five? Coach Matt Painter wouldn’t tip his hand.
"I thought he responded well to starting,” Painter told the West Lafayette Journal and Courier. “Sometimes, guys start, and it doesn't help them. Today, it looked like it did help him starting and being comfortable out there."
Kansas Jayhawks at Missouri Tigers, 9 p.m., ESPN (-3, 147.5)
Marcus Denmon is in the biggest slump of his career. The Missouri guard shot 50 percent from the floor and nearly 45 percent from 3-point range last season but has been much colder this season and downright frigid his past eight games. Over that span he is shooting a mere 31 percent with his woes coming to a head in a win over Texas earlier this week where he made just three of his 12 shots while missing all three of his 3-point attempts en route to a season-low six points.
“A guy like him, he knows he’s not shooting the ball well, so what do I need to talk to him about it for?” Missouri Coach Frank Haith told The Columbia Tribune. “All I need to do is continue to talk to him about taking good shots.”

Hockey Night In Canada: NHL betting preview
Toronto Maple Leafs at Ottawa Senators (-135, 5.5)
Precious points are on the line in the home of the All-Star Game. The Eastern Conference playoff race is headed for the home stretch, and these two rivals are jockeying for position at the bottom of the mix.
The trials of topsy-turvy Toronto
It seems that the Maple Leafs are quite content being one of the league's most inconsistent teams. Of course, that's just fine when things are going well, and right now, they are on the upswing. Toronto has points in its last four games and has won three of those outings.
Even forgotten goaltender James Reimer got into the act Wednesday, as he blanked the surging Penguins 1-0 in Toronto, making 25 saves. He doesn't lead the Maple Leafs in wins (Jonas Gustavsson, 16) or goals-against average (Gustavsson, 2.77), but the netminder who entered the season as Toronto's No. 1 will still be a vital part to the postseason push. Anything that builds his confidence is a plus for the Maple Leafs. With two consistent goaltenders in the fold, Toronto will have a major advantage over the rest of the playoff hopefuls.
Back on home ice... finally
After hosting All-Star Week festivities in their city, the Senators have had a slow week. Headed into Friday night's game against the Islanders, Ottawa had only played one tilt since the break - a 4-3 loss to the Bruins in Boston Tuesday. The Sens blew a 3-1 lead and didn’t have a single power play in the road defeat.
But the weekend brought hope to Ottawa, the Eastern Conference's biggest surprise this season. The Senators, who before Friday hadn’t hosted a game since Jan. 16, entered the Islanders game in sixth place in the conference with 60 points. And the better news is that January - a month in which Ottawa lost its final four games - is over.
Armstrong’s arrival
Toronto forward Colby Armstrong won't light the lamp much for the Maple Leafs the rest of the way, but the team is happy to have him back nonetheless. Armstrong returned from a concussion in the win over Pittsburgh Wednesday. It was just his 10th game of the season.
Armstrong played well, posting three shots on 12 shifts for 10:27 of ice time. He's still looking for his first goal of the season and he has just one point all year. But the 2001 first-round draft pick of the Penguins is back and can be that grinder that coach Ron Wilson needs down the stretch.
History
Ottawa has won the last three in this great rivalry, including a 3-2 decision on Jan. 17. Toronto has won just one of the four meetings this year and just four of the last 10 against the Senators overall. Eight of the last 10 Maple Leafs games have gone under.
Detroit Red Wings at Edmonton Oilers (140, 5.5)
Here comes big, bad Detroit, the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed. And waiting to welcome them? The Edmonton Oilers who have just 45 points. But funny things happen on Hockey Night in Canada.
Super Sam
The Oilers would have taken a win over the Blackhawks any way they could have gotten it Thursday. But the way they orchestrated the surprising 8-4 decision - thanks to Sam Gagner - made it even sweeter. Gagner had four goals and four assists to tie an Oilers record of eight points in a single game.
Gagner now is among elite Oilers company. Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey both achieved that feat before, and he ended the game just two points away from the NHL record of 10, established by Toronto’s Darryl Sittler on Feb. 7, 1976.
The amazing thing is that Gagner is just 22 years old and had only five goals on the year before Thursday night.
Deep getting deeper
The Red Wings, who outlasted Vancouver 4-3 in a shootout Thursday, were happy to see forward Tomas Holmstrom back in the lineup against the Canucks. Holmstrom sat out Tuesday’s 3-1 win in Calgary with soreness in both knees. He had injections last week and was able to rest through the All-Star break, but still needed some extra time.
Holmstrom took 14 shifts in the win and had 11:08 of ice time. He registered two hits as Detroit won for the ninth time in its last 10 tries. Holmstrom has eight goals and 18 points in 44 games this season.
Joltin’ Jordan
Lost in the glory of Gagner Thursday night was a milestone for Edmonton right wing Jordan Eberle. The youngster, who has produced in good times and bad this season for Edmonton, had four points against Chicago, including three assists.
Eberle reached the 20-goal mark and now has an even 50 points. He had five shots on goal in the victory, and a block as well. And for those tracking tonight's matchup, Eberle had a goal and three shots in a 3-2 loss to Detroit on Dec. 19.
History
Detroit has won the last seven installments of this series, including that aforementioned 3-2 decision in December and a 3-0 victory on Nov. 11. The last three games between these two have gone under. Edmonton has just one over in its last four overall.

Pick 'n' roll: Saturday's best NBA bets
Golden State Warriors at Sacramento Kings (-1.5, 199.5)
You can’t say that Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson doesn’t have the pulse of his team.
He kept starters Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry and Andris Biedrins on the bench for almost all of the fourth quarter when these two teams met on Tuesday. The move wasn’t meant to punish his stars, he was just riding his team’s momentum and the Warriors came away with a 93-90 comeback win.
After getting that rest, Ellis and Curry combined for 62 points in Thursday’s 119-101 blowout victory over Utah.
"At their best, I'd put them up against anybody in the game," Jackson said of his two sharpshooters. "We know what they're capable of doing. The challenge to them is not to tease us."
Golden State has now won a season-high three straight games should be able to get the better of Sacto again if they can keep this rotation going.
Pick: Warriors
Los Angeles Clippers at Washington Wizards (7.5, 199)
The Clippers are the toast of Los Angeles right now, but they’re not going to cruise through this season without some bumps along the way.
They hit a major pothole in the road Thursday when they were blown out by the Denver Nuggets 112-91 as 1-point favorites, snapping the club’s four-game winning streak.
The Clippers came out like a house on fire, opening up a 13-point lead in the first quarter, but then found themselves trailing by 19 at the end of the third frame.
"It's real crazy," Chris Paul told reporters after the game, "but that's been a thing for us this season. We get off to really good starts and our second quarters haven't been the best. Like we've been saying about a lot of things, we're still a work in progress."
After a little rest, expect the Clippers to take their frustrations out on the Wizards, who were spanked by the lowly Raps on Friday night.
Pick: Clippers

College funds: Saturday's best NCAAB bets
Kansas Jayhawks at Missouri Tigers (-3, 147.5)
The stakes are always high when border rivals Missouri and Kansas get together, but the intensity might be at an all-time crescendo when the No. 4 Tigers host the No. 8 Jayhawks at Mizzou Arena.
Not only are the teams squaring off for the 15th time when both are ranked in the top 10, but both are also in contention for the Big 12 title, and perhaps a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. To add to the atmosphere, ESPN’s College Gameday has selected Mizzou Arena as the site for its broadcast for the first time in school history.
This also could be the last season the archrivals meet for the foreseeable future, with Missouri headed to the Southeastern Conference next season.
The senior-laden Tigers are led by guard Marcus Denmon, whose 17.2 points per game ranks fourth in the Big 12, and forward Ricardo Ratliffe, who leads the nation in field goal percentage (75.1) and scored 14.7 points per game.
That experience could be the difference.
Pick: Tigers
Iowa State Cyclones at Oklahoma Sooners (-1.5, 139.5)
There shouldn't be any shortage of offense when these two teams hook up.
Something will have to give as Iowa State and host Oklahoma enter as two of the Big 12’s worst defensive teams. The Cyclones are eighth in scoring defense (66.6 points) and ninth in field goal percentage defense (43 percent), while the Sooners are last in points allowed (68.1) and eighth in field goal percentage defense (42 percent).
The Cyclones have climbed to fourth in the Big 12 in field goal percentage (45 percent), thanks in large part to a stretch of four wins in five games. In those five contests, Iowa State is shooting 45 percent (120 of 266), including 51 percent in the recent victory over Kansas State.
Royce White is among the Big 12 leaders in a number of categories, including rebounding (second, averaging 9.5) and field goal percentage (fourth, 54 percent). In the last five games, the redshirt sophomore is averaging 9.2 rebounds and shooting 55 percent, while averaging 15.8 points, nearly two points better than his season scoring average.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma has three players averaging better than 12 points per game. That depth and home court should get the Sooners through this test.
Pick: Sooners

Ice picks: Saturday's best NHL bets
New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers (-160, 5.5)
The Philadelphia Flyers began their recent hot streak by defeating the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 21. The 4-1 triumph in the Garden State ignited a 3-0-2 stretch for Peter Laviolette's club, which sits just three points behind the Atlantic Division-leading New York Rangers.
The Flyers will look to maintain their recent mastery of the Devils when the two teams meet in the City of Brotherly Love on Saturday afternoon. Philadelphia is 2-0-1 against New Jersey this season. Wayne Simmonds has fared well versus the Devils, scoring a goal and setting up two others in the teams' last outing.
Simmonds also tallied twice in the Flyers' 4-1 victory over the streaking Nashville Predators on Thursday and sits one goal shy of matching his career high.
For its part, New Jersey won its second straight after overcoming a pair of two-goal deficits to post a 5-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
Looks like we're in for some offense in this matinee.
Pick: Over
San Jose Sharks at Phoenix Coyotes (115, 5)
The San Jose Sharks have certainly found their offense over the All-Star break. After scoring just six goals in their previous four games, the Sharks have exploded for 11 in a pair of wins since returning to action.
Coach Todd McLellan's club will look to continue its scoring ways on Saturday when it visits the desert to face the Pacific Division foe Phoenix Coyotes. San Jose has dominated the rivalry as of late, winning three in a row and 10 of 12 versus Phoenix.
All-Star C Logan Couture extended his point streak to five games with a goal and an assist in Thursday's 5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars. Couture, who has collected three goals and five assists during the stretch, has recorded eight points in as many career games versus the Coyotes.
While San Jose has ascended to the top of the division, Phoenix has plummeted into fourth place in the Pacific after losing 13 of its last 17 contests (4-8-5). The Coyotes dropped to 1-2-1 on its current six-game homestand with Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the division cellar-dwelling Anaheim Ducks.
We like the Sharks to keep it going, but with this price tag we'll look at the over.
Pick: Over

Bryan Power
Charlotte @ Phoenix
Pick: Charlotte +10.5
This is not going to be a popular pick, but it does represent what I feel is the correct side of this particular matchup. Charlotte flat out embarrassed itself in the first two games of this four-game road trip, losing by a combined 78 points to the Lakers and Blazers. Thus we find the Bobcats catching double digits against a Phoenix Suns team that simply does not deserve to be in this price range against anybody. Witness last night's 18-point loss in Houston, which dropped the Suns to 4-10 SU their last 14 games overall (also 4-10 ATS). Phoenix has lost outright the last three times it has been favored. I wagered against them on the last such occasion, a 99-96 home loss to Toronto on January 24th. The sun will shine on every NBA team some days (witness that the Pistons won a game Friday night!) and Charlotte, who is currently in the midst of a horrific stretch of ten consecutive losses (0-7 ATS L7), is long overdue for a cover. Take advantage of this inflated line.
Matt Fargo
Arizona @ Stanford
PICK: Stanford
Arizona is coming off a massive win on Thursday as it won at California, ending the Golden Bears' 17-game winning streak at Haas Pavilion. The victory improved the Wildcats to 6-4 in the conference and kept them two games behind Washington for first place. They have been decent on the road this season, going 5-3 overall including 3-2 in the Pac 12 but the other two wins came against bottom feeders USC and Utah. While the travel is not a lot, it still presents a tough spot.
Stanford rolled over Arizona St. to also improve to 6-4 in the conference and like California, it has a strong home court edge. The Cardinal are 12-1 at Maples Pavilion with the only loss coming against Butler in non-conference action. The easy victory over the Sun Devils on Thursday allowed some rest for the starters as Stanford cleared the bench for a lot of the game as 11 players logged nine or more minutes of action and no starter played more than 27 minutes.
The Wildcats suffered a tough loss last week with the loss of guard Kevin Parrom which hurts the depth of the backcourt. Now it gets worse as Thursday night, Arizona also lost the services of guard Jordin Mayes which really thins out the backcourt. Without Parrom and Mayes, the Wildcats’ bench basically consists of guard Brendon Lavender and center Angelo Chol. Freshman shooting guard Nick Johnson will be the backup point guard and the Wildcats now have only seven players logging double-digits in minutes.
Stanford has Arizona in a position to snap its five-game losing streak against the Wildcats. Stanford's most recent victory over Arizona came back on Jan. 4, 2009 which was also at home. Overall the Cardinal are 63-17 at home since the start of 2007 so it is a tough place for the opposition to come into. They have covered 26 of their last 37 home games against teams with a winning road record and they are 7-1 ATS this season against teams coming off a win in their last game.
Marc Lawrence
Wright State @ Valparaiso
PICK: Valparaiso -9
Our database did a lot of recent mining in the Horizon League and it came up with more than a few nuggets, one of which is the fact that the Raiders are a much better dog at home in conference play (11-1 ATS L12) than they are on the road (7-14 ATS) – and away from the cozy confines of the Ervin J. Nutter Center is where we find Wright State in this matchup. WSU beat the Crusaders, 73-55, in Dayton last month but since then coach Billy Donlon has been less than pleased with his team’s effort on offense. "We don't play with nearly the pace we need," Donlon told the Dayton Daily News. "I mean in half court, we stand, we don't move. It's a major problem." Valpo’s success with same-season revenge looks like another problem for the visitors: Bryce Drew’s team is 6-1 ATS in that role of late, including 4-0 ATS on this court. The Crusaders have shown significant improvement since the earlier loss to WSU, particularly on defense. Off a double revenger with Butler and a revenge affair up next versus Green Bay (1-5 ATS before the Phoenix), Wright is in the wrong place at the wrong time here. We love same-season paybacks on strong homecourts with winning avengers versus losing foes, especially when the hosts are vying for the conference lead. Remember, two wrongs don’t make a Wright. Lay the points. We recommend a 1-unit play on Valparaiso.
Jim Feist
Gonzaga vs Pepperdine
Pick: Gonzaga
Gonzaga (17-4) is a powerhouse team and faces a Pepperdine squad (8-14) that has a .500 home record. Gonzaga won't be in a good mood after blowing a game at BYU, with 15 first half turnovers. Gonzaga turned the ball over 19 times total, including 14 BYU steals. Bulldogs coach Mark Few criticized his team for not handling the task of playing in a tough road environment well and the Bulldogs are 24-8-2 ATS in their last 34 games vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400. Pepperdine is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 vs. the West Coast Conference. The Bulldogs are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Pepperdine and the favorite is 18-7-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings. Play Gonzaga!

Accuscore - NCAAB - Jonathan Lee
Syracuse -12 at St. John’s
I like Syracuse to win big in this game because Syracuse is BIG. Fab Melo is back for the Orange, and will help provide a significant size advantage inside. The Cuse struggled some defensively without Melo in the middle, but his presence should make a nice difference.
Virginia +5 at Florida State
The computer point spread for this game is Florida State -3. Both computer ATS records are positive for games involving either team. Tony Bennett has long played one of the slowest, most controlled tempos in college basketball. The Seminoles offense varies wildly from game to game allowing them to blow out the likes of North Carolina and then struggle to reach 20 points in a half just days apart.
Ohio State -2 at Wisconsin
The Badgers are terrific in their own right, and will be at home but Ohio State is slightly underappreciated as an elite team. Wisconsin also appears to struggle a bit against elite level competition while really blowing out teams that are not up its level. The Buckeyes are definitely a threat for the national title, and a win would go a long way in securing a Big 10 title and a potential number one seed in the NCAA tournament.
Oregon State -13 at Utah
The Beavers did get blown out at Colorado, but this is the easier end of this Pac-12 swing. Oregon State is great at forcing turnovers with their pressure and trapping defenses. Utah conversely is one of the worst teams in the country in taking care of the basketball with not much talent on the roster particularly in the backcourt. The athletic Beavers should force plenty of turnovers and get out in transition. Look for Jared Cunningham to have a big, big game.
Manhattan +2.5 vs. Iona
Manhattan is favored by a point by the computer, but Iona is giving 2.5 points. That’s a nice value for a game that appears to be a toss-up especially with the Jaspers at home. Manhattan is 17-5 against the spread this season.
Troy vs. Louisiana-Lafayette Under 146.5 Points
The difference between the sim line and betting total is 5.5 points, the highest of any game on Saturday. The under occurs in 57.3 percent of simulations.

SPORTS WAGERS
Scott Jorgenson +217 over Renan Barao
Renan Barao fights out of the Nova Uniao camp in Brazil and comes into this fight with a near perfect record of 27-1. His last performance being a 1st round submission win over British slugger Brad Pickett. But a closer look at his record reveals that almost all of these wins are over fighters that aren't UFC calibre. Jorgenson has been fighting in the UFC/WEC for the past four years, compiling a very respectabel 9-3 record that includes a decision loss in a title fight to division kingpin Dominic Cruz. A loss that has made him a better fighter. While Berao's last win was impressive, it was his first win over a top 10 bantamweight and it has turned him into an inflated favorite against a guy who has been in the top five for the last couple years. Jorgensen was a three time Pac-10 wrestling champ at Boise State and has rounded out his game with decent striking and a very dangerous submission game. While we wouldn't go so far as to say the wrong fighter is favored, this line is still off, as Jorgensen has the means to put Barao on his back and keep him there for extended periods of time. “Young Guns” gets the decision win and holds up the Barao hype train. Play: Scott Jorgensen +217 (Risking 2 units).

Dave Cokin
New Mexico vs Boise State
Pick: New Mexico
Very tough spot for Boise State off the near shocker at San Diego State. The Broncos had a real bad time getting ready to play after the tough loss to UNLV, and I see a similar fate befalling them here. Pace figures to favor the more talented team, so I'd give the points with New Mexico.
Chip Chirimbes
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Atlanta Hawks
Play: Atlanta Hawks -4
If everything breaks the way it should this game should go to Atlanta off their horrid performance Thursday night against Memphis (Megabucks Winner) and now host the 76ers coming off a huge encounter with the Miami Heat last night. One of the key factors is the back-to-back game situation against quality foes. Especially, a playoff team coming off an embarrassing home loss. Take the HAWKS!
Jimmy Boyd
1 Unit Utah Jazz -2
Motivated by back-to-back defeats, and out to avenge a pair of losses to the Lakers in the season's first two meetings, expect the Jazz to take care of business at home this evening.
The Lakers are just 3-7 on the road this season. One of their road wins came against the Jazz, but they needed overtime to get it done.
The Jazz are 10-4 at home and should be the fresher team having had a day of rest. The Lakers just played last night and earned a satisfying revenge win over the Nuggets so don't be surprised if they come out flat.
The Lakers have not been a good investment on the road, where they are on a 3-9 ATS slide. They are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games as a road underdog and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Take the Jazz.
Dave Price
1 Unit San Antonio Spurs -3
The Spurs have been nearly unstoppable at home where they are 12-1 on the season and have won by an average of 12.2 points. The Spurs have won their last 3 at home versus Oklahoma City with those wins coming by 8, 27 and 4 points. The Thunder won the season's first meeting in its house, but I expect San Antonio to have its revenge on its home floor tonight. The Thunder are 4-10-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings in San Antonio. Lay the points.
Scott Rickenbach
Vancouver Canucks @ Colorado Avalanche
PICK: Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks open a four-game road trip in the Rockies Saturday, coming to the Pepsi Center to face the Colorado Avalanche. The Canucks have overcome their Stanley Cup final hangover and have climbed back to the top of the Northwest Division with six wins in their last 10 outings. Vancouver’s key players are rounding into form, with goaltender Roberto Luongo looking sharp in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings, turning away 40 of 43 shots faced. Center Henrik Sedin is also picking up some speed, recording an assist in the last two outings after going four games without a point. Canucks head coach Alan Vigneault has been splitting up Henrik and his brother Daniel late in the games, with the move giving Vancouver more scoring depth when it needs it most. Colorado stumbles into the weekend on a four-game losing skid and has won just once in its last eight meeting with Vancouver.
Sean Murphy
St. Louis @ Nashville
PICK: St. Louis +½
The Predators have gotten the better of the Blues in each of their three meetings so far this season, but it's been anything but a cakewalk.
Two of Nashville's three wins over St. Louis have come by way of shootout. In fact, four of the last seven matchups in this series have been decided by a shootout.
The Blues might be catching the Preds at the right time on Saturday. St. Louis is coming off a 1-0 victory over Los Angeles last night, in its first game following the All-Star break. The Preds will already be playing their third game since the break.
Nashville lost some of its momentum with a 4-1 loss in Philadelphia on Thursday. Prior to that, the Preds had reeled off five straight victories.
It's worth noting that Nashville hasn't defeated St. Louis in regulation time here at home since October of 2010. Since then, the Blues have gone 2-1 in this building, with their only loss coming in shootout fashion back in mid-December. Take St. Louis +0.5 goals (regulation time) -153
Rob Vinciletti
Pacific vs. Cal Irvine
Play: Pacific +2.5
Pacific has better numbers in this one as they are 10-3 ats as a dog and have covered 4 of the last 5 on the road when the total is 130 to 135. In fact they are 6-3 straight up as a road dog of 3 or less. They are 6-1 on Saturday and have have covered the last 5 times with home loss revenge. In game after allowing 60 or less the are a solid 7-0 against the spread and 4-1 to the spread after scoring 60 or less points last out. UC Irvine has failed to cover all 4 times at home when the total is 130 to 135 and 3 of the last times they have played off a win, in fact they are 4-12 straight up off a win. Look for Pacific to get the cash tonight.
Scott Spreitzer
UNLV at Wyoming
Play: Wyoming
I released the Cowboys on these pages last weekend and we cashed the ticket. I have been a proponent of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels all season, but this is a very tough spot for a team that struggled in a pair of OT wins on the road last week against Air Force and Boise State. Wyoming is better than both of those teams and they are in fact a quiet 17-5 SU (11-6 ATS). The line jumped at least a full point to UNLV -4- on Friday when it was announced that Larry Nance, Jr., may be sidelined by a knee injury. Nance gets about 16 minutes per game and averages 3.6 ppg & 4 rpg. While he's a nice addition when healthy, Wyoming should not lose home games due to his potential absence. Wyoming has a nice inside-outside game and 6'7 forward Leonard Washington creates a tough matchup situation when Wyoming is on the attack. Defensively, the Cowboys could thwart the "Runnin'" part of the Rebels. Wyoming is 4th in the nation, allowing just 53.8 ppg. They've held teams to 39.6% shooting, including 30.5% from behind the arc. UNLV would like to run, but I believe it's going to be tough to do in this one. UNLV is on a 0-4 ATS slide in road action, while Wyoming has protected Laramie well, currenrly on a 17-7-1 ATS run on their home floor. I'm taking the points with Wyoming on Saturday.
